The Healing Power of Music – Personal Reflections
It is not often that I have deeply profound and impactful experiences in my daily life. However, today with all my hectic activities of creative meetings, administrative office duties, students at the piano and just everyday responsibilities, something stopped me in my tracks.
I had to sit down and ponder the text message I received from the mom of one of my 7 year old piano students. She began with an apology for her child missing her lesson last week and probably wouldn’t be able to make this week as well.
She went on to explain that she was diagnosed with pneumonia and was quite ill. The doctors finally gave her the necessary medicine to help her begin the recovery. However, with the high fever she suffered with, apparently she experienced some confusion. Her mother exclaimed to me that all she wanted was to be able to play the piano.
She was missing me and our time together, but most importantly she felt that her hands were growing bigger and stronger and that she wanted to show me how she could stretch and play the beautiful rich chords that made her so happy.
Just imagine the power of music and the joy she was feeling in spite of her serious illness. These thoughts fed her spirit and energy and gave her the strength to heal.
I can personally relate to this experience and have had life’s challenges put in front of me. Music helped me through many tough times!
